Hi @Dean159,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 15-fc0000 running Windows 11 is failing to install the 25/09 Cumulative Update Preview, and you want to resolve this. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps.

1. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

Press Windows + I → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Windows Update → Run.

Follow the prompts.

Restart your laptop and try the update again.

2. Check Available Disk Space

Press Windows + E → This PC → C: drive → check available free space.

Windows Update may fail if less than 10–15 GB is available.

Clear temporary files via Settings → System → Storage → Temporary files.

3. Manually Download the Update

Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Search for the update “25/09 cumulative update preview for Windows 11” and download the correct version for your system.

Install manually and restart.

5. Check System File Integrity

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:

sfc /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Restart after completion and try the update again.

6. Disable Third-Party Antivirus Temporarily

Sometimes antivirus software blocks Windows Update.

Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus and retry the update.

I hope this helps.

Hi there,

Thank you for the reply.

I have done that aswell as the relevant diagnostics for windows update and laptop services all of which are working within normal parameters.

Storage space is not an issue as my laptop is 512gb SSD and I have over 400GB of free space.

Can you please provide anything else that may assist in fixing this issue.

I look forward to you next reply,

Dean

Hi @Dean159,

Thank you for the update and for confirming the steps you’ve already taken. I understand how frustrating it can be when a Windows 11 update won’t install despite everything appearing normal. Let’s try a few additional approaches:

1. Use Windows Update Assistant

Download the Windows 11 Update Assistant from Microsoft.

Run it to force-install the cumulative update.

This method often bypasses minor glitches in the standard Windows Update process.

2. Perform an In-Place Upgrade

Download the Windows 11 Installation Media from Microsoft.

Run the setup and select “Keep personal files and apps”.

This will refresh system files and often resolves stubborn update failures without affecting your data.

3. Check for Pending Device Driver Updates

Outdated drivers (especially storage or chipset drivers) can sometimes prevent cumulative updates from installing.

Open Device Manager → right-click each critical device → Update driver.

Alternatively, visit HP Support and download the latest drivers for your model.

Tip: Keep the laptop plugged in and connected to the Internet while performing these steps.

I hope this helps.

Ive tried to download the update assistant but no joy with getting it to install.

It wants a health check to make sure a WINDOWS 11 laptop is COMPATABLE with WINDOWS 11.

Could you please provide a link to HP drivers scan/install section.

Kind regards.

Once again I have already tried everything you are suggesting INCLUDING updating all drivers from the website.

So can you please provide me with a link to a live chat.

Also again I have 409GB of space to use.
