HP Notebook - 15-bs087cl
Microsoft Windows 11

I just wanted everyone to know that I was aware that in October 2025, windows 10 would no longer be serviced.  In lieu of that circumstance my HP 15-bs087cl would be virtually useless.  However something remarkable happened.  I discovered that the windows 11 iso file could be used through Rufus to extend the life of the laptop.  Basically, I did it!  I was able to load windows 11 on my HP laptop, that has the gen 7, core i7-7500U processor.  Guess what?!?!?!?  It works GREAT!!!  After all the updates were finished and all the firmware updated....its remarkable smooth in operation.  Absolutely no issues!!!  Now i have a "just-in-case" laptop on stand-by if any issues arise with my gen 12, core i7-12700H (which it wont).  lol  I put a new Samsung gen 4 pcie 990 ssd in her....and she's a rocket!!!  But it was nice to know that my i7-7500U wasn't going in the trash can.

@CrimsonBama3, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, this is truly inspiring! 🎉

You've demonstrated a great example of how older hardware like the HP Notebook 15-bs087cl with a 7th Gen Intel Core i7-7500U can still deliver excellent performance with a few smart upgrades and a bit of determination.

What You Did Right:

  • Used Rufus to bypass Windows 11 hardware checks: This is a known method to install Windows 11 on unsupported CPUs. Rufus allows you to create a bootable USB and disable TPM/Secure Boot/RAM checks.
  • Installed a Samsung 990 PCIe Gen 4 SSD: While the i7-7500U platform only supports Gen 3 speeds, Gen 4 SSDs are backward compatible and still offer blazing-fast performance.
  • Updated all firmware and drivers: This is key to ensuring stability and compatibility with Windows 11.

For Others Looking to Do the Same:

If you're considering upgrading your HP 15-bs087cl or similar model, here are some steps and resources:

Create a Windows 11 Bootable USB with Rufus

  • Download the latest Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft: Download Windows 11
  • Use Rufus to create the bootable USB and disable compatibility checks.

Install Windows 11

  • Boot from the USB drive.
  • Follow the installation steps.
  • Skip TPM/Secure Boot warnings if prompted.

Update Drivers and Firmware

SSD Compatibility

  • While your laptop doesn’t support Gen 4 speeds, Gen 4 SSDs like the Samsung 990 are backward compatible and will run at Gen 3 speeds.
  • Make sure your BIOS is updated to the latest version to ensure NVMe support.

👏 Kudos again for breathing new life into your laptop! It's always great to see older HP devices still going strong. If you ever need help optimizing performance or tweaking settings, feel free to reach out here.

Take care and have a good day.
