Hey there,
I am rather frustrated with the newest version of win10, the 1909 release. My notebook has been trying to install that "Update" for some months now and it simply won't install. Latest reference - as of today - is "Fehler bei der Installation am 16.04.2020 (meaning installation error on) – 0x800f081f"
I tried to look up that error code, last time in March, tried out some of the recommendations on the Microsoft page, nothing worked. It only took up an unholy amount of time, something I have too little of as it is! I hope someone here has any new ideas, because I don't.
Do I need that update for any conceiveable reason or can I just leave it be?
Help is greatly appreciated!
Marion

Windows Updates fail for LOTs of reasons and your only recourse is to do what you did -- search on the error code, find some solutions, see if any of them work.
If you're doing the update through Windows Update, an alternative is to go to this site, download the update from there any apply it manually: https://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-news/
I had to do that to one PC recently that failed repeatedly to install the latest CU.

WAWood, thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately, it does not help.
I already tried installing the Update manually twice (in February and March), did not work either.
I think I'll give up on that one - it's just making me crazy that anytime I re-activate the Update function, it tries to install, blocking valuable time. It's so stupid ...

Finally (!!!!) I managed to install the Update, using this: https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/software-download/windows10
Unfortunately, the link goes to the German website, but I am sure it's available in English, too.
The Update took an awful amount of time (more than an hour) and installed some "features" I definitely did not want to have :-), but so far, it works fine.
Hope this helps other users facing the same problem.

edit: don't be surprised if you hard disk free space is suddenly very small - for a possible rollback, all old data are stored on the HD in windows.old
I deleted that after testing for a week if everything works, using system tools for clean-up
