Hi:

You need these drivers for the following devices:

SMBus controller:  Install and restart the PC.

Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66501-67000/sp66956.exe

PCI Simple Communication Controller:

Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp65501-66000/sp65854.exe

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller:

Intel USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64001-64500/sp64386.exe

PCI Device:

Realtek Card Reader Driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64001-64500/sp64387.exe

Ethernet Controller:

Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64001-64500/sp64388.exe

For the Network Controller and Unknown Device, I will need the hardware ID's for those two devices, so I can figure out what drivers they need.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the very quick response!

Hardware IDs:

  • Network Controller
    • PCI\VEN_10ec&dev_8179&SUBSYS_197D103C&REV_01
    • PCI\VEN_10ec&dev_8179&SUBSYS_197D103C
    • PCI\VEN_10ec&dev_8179&CC_028000
    • PCI\VEN_10ec&dev_8179&CC_0280

  • Unknown Device
    • ACPI\HPQ6007
    • *HPQ6007

An error message popped up while installing the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver (PCI Simple Communication Controller):

‘A required update is missing: Kernel-Mode Driver Framework 1.11 (KB2685811).’

This prevented the installation of the driver.

All the other driver installations were successful! These are the only ones missing:

  • Network Controller
  • PCI Simple Communication Controller
  • Unknown device

Thank you!

You're very welcome.

I've never heard of that error when installing the IMEI driver.

I assume it may be installed via Windows update, but if you haven't been able to connect to the internet, that would be a reason why KB2685811 was not installed.

The good news is you can download and install KB2685811 from the Microsoft Update Catalog website at the link below.

Microsoft Update Catalog

You want the first file listed.

For the Network Controller, you need this driver:

Realtek RTL8xxx Series Wireless LAN Drivers

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp96501-97000/sp96873.exe

And for the Unknown device, you need this driver:

HP 3D DriveGuard Software

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78105.exe
