HP ProBook 650 G2 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello, friends!
In 2015, I bought a used HP ProBook 6550b laptop, and Windows 7 Professional 64 OA was installed on it. I am satisfied with HP computer equipment, I intend to continue using it: I want to purchase an HP ProBook 650 G2 Notebook, which also has Windows 7 Professional 64 Preinstalled.
The question is, if I create an OS image with the software on the old laptop, can I deploy it on the new one so that Windows 7 remains licensed and activated? I have a lot of software installed and configured on my computer - this transfer is necessary to save time.
Thanks in advance for your reply. Sincerely, Yuri.

Hi, Yuri:

Since they are both HP notebooks, and use W7 preactivated software, you should be able to do that, but I cannot 100% guarantee it will work.

You may also run into a problem because your HP ProBook 6550b is much older as far as the processor and chipset are concerned, and the hard drive may not boot up in the newer 650 G2.

If you were buying a different brand notebook with W7, what you want to do wouldn't work.

Greetings, Paul_Tikkanen.

Thanks for the complete and detailed answer.

I also thought about running Windows 7 on a significantly new computer. It will be possible to update it to Windows 10 before the transfer or to do it after deploying the image by entering Safe mode first.

I will try.

You're very welcome.

Yes, you may have a better chance doing an in place upgrade on your 6550b notebook to W10 and then trying to move the drive over since W10 has more native storage controller drivers in its database than W7 has.
