I want to update my Windows 7 to windows 8.1
Do I have to update to windows 8 first? If so how would I do this?
I can't go above windows 8.1 as my Adobe CS6 is not supported past that point.

Hello @Lgraysonx
Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.
(1) You can upgrade from Windows 7 directly to Windows 8.1
(2) If you need drivers go here:
Software and drivers for HP Pavilion dv7-6c90us Entertainment Notebook PC
Selected operating system: Windows 8 (64-bit)
Good luck

Hi, @Lgraysonx
Please note that you will have to buy a license to activate W8.1.
There was no free upgrade path from W7 to W8.1.
You can try using your W7 product key to activate W8.1, but don't get your hopes up that it will work.

Hello @Lgraysonx
User @Paul_Tikkanen is right about costs.
Thank you @Paul_Tikkanen !
Prices could be lower or free now, I don't know.
Even the upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10 is free if you have a Windows 8 or 8.1 license, so I would have expected it to be the same in your case ( Windows 7 Upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1 ).
See this nice guide to start your upgrade:
How to Upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 with Upgrade Assistant
Good luck

Upgrading to W8 or W8.1 was never free.
I don't even know if you can buy a license for W8.1 from Microsoft anymore, but I guarantee you, you will not find one for free.
If you can't activate W8.1 with your notebook's W7 product key, see if you can get a genuine Microsoft W8.1 key on eBay.
You can probably find one fairly reasonable, since W8.1 goes out of support next year.

That's a great idea @Paul_Tikkanen
Now we hope that user @Lgraysonx will upgrade well and everything will work fine.
Thank you again @Paul_Tikkanen
Good luck @Lgraysonx
