Hi,

I Have an old Envy k201, with Originally Win 8.1 Pro pre-installed. When a Free Upgrade to Win10 Pro was Available, I had it upgraded. But When I did a Reset on my PC, it only Restored Win10 SL (Activated) I check the information and it said License was link to my Microsoft Account. Is it still prossible tp upgrade the OS to Pro? Will it need a new Product Key?

Hi @Ganchs,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy laptop originally had Windows 8.1 Pro and it was upgraded to Windows 10 Pro during the free upgrade period, it should ideally retain the Pro edition after a reset. However, if it reverted to Windows 10 SL (Single Language), you might need to enter a new Product Key to upgrade back to Windows 10 Pro.

Here's how you can proceed:

  1. Check Digital License: Ensure that your Microsoft account is still linked with a digital license for Windows 10 Pro. This can sometimes automatically upgrade your current version to Pro without needing a Product Key.

  2. Purchase a Product Key: If your digital license does not reflect Windows 10 Pro, you may need to purchase a new Windows 10 Pro Product Key. This key can be entered to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

  3. Product Key Activation:
    • Enter Product Key:
      • Go to the Windows Settings and select Update & Security.
      • Select Activation.
      • Enter the 25-character Product Key for Windows 10 Pro.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
