Windows 8.1 wil not update

I did a Windows Refresh on 22.6.19 and I am pleased with the result except for one serious problem, Windows 8.1 will not update.

I have run the Windows Update repair tool from the Microsoft  web site twice. I have also run the operating system check via the HP Support Assistant twice. I do have updates to KB2885706 ,this was installed on the 8.5.14.

I  hope updates are stored somewhere  on Microsoft so we can go and download them ourselves.

Any help available.

Thank you for your help. I have found that you can find an update on the Microsoft web page simply by searching for it. This has lead me to further discussions and suggestions. I am still to try some of the solutions offered but I am being cautious.

I have downloaded some recommended updates and also tried installing them directly from Microsoft. They will not install! So I am still unable to update Windows 8.1 x64. Any suggestions.

I have the solution to this problem

1st : Download and install : Windows8.1-KB3173424-x64 (Servicing Stack Update July 2016), it's required for the update KB3172614

2nd : Download and install : Windows8.1-KB3172614-x64 ((July 2016 Rollup)

KB3172614 update the Windows update service

Everything will works afterward.

I got the same problem the last time I reinstalled Windows 8.1.

Thank you for your help in suggesting the correct path to follow. I am now getting updates. I read many articles on this problem and they all mentioned the importance of KB3173424 andKB3172614. I was unable to install these updates either by opening or running the updates or downloading to install later. I visited many solution sites but www.windowstechit.com/18621/fix-windows-8-8-1-checking-for-updates-continuously/ found the missing link for my computer. The factory updates on my computer stopped at 21th May 2014 and windowstechit suggested some people may need the April 2015 Servicing Stack Update 8.1 KB3021910 X64. I set windows update to never download updates then ran or opened the above update from the microsoft site, it was installed and I restarted the computer. Then I did the same with KB3173424 and then KB3172614. Within 15 minutes 156 important updates appeared.
