HP 2000 Notebook

I am using a computer that was my grandparents.  Windows 8 is currently installed but the computer is telling me to activate windows for me to customize the computer.  It says that there is a current key code in use but I quest it doesn’t work anymore.  Please help.

First of all, HP keeps no records of individual product keys associated with individual PCs. So, there is no way to get the code you need from HP.

Second, you can download and use this utility to recover the key embedded in the UEFI firmware of the PC:  http://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/2577-showkey.html

You should then be able to use that key to activate the Windows version on the PC.
