Hi,
If you have ( or can borrow ) a 'retail' Vista 64bit installation disc, skip this first section and proceed with the Command Prompt entries from the Repair Menu described later.
If you don't have access to a retail Vista disc, follow the guide below.
***********************************************************
Using another PC create your own 'retail Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit installation disc - the download and the method for creating the disc can be found on the following link under the sub-heading 'Create your own bootable Vista ISO image'.
http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/57-windows-vista-direct-download-links#
***********************************************************
When you've created the installation disc ( or if you already have one ), tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Insert the Vista disc. Select Boot options ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter. You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue' - do this if asked.
When loaded, select Repair Your Computer and choose the Command Prompt. When this loads, enter the following commands and hit enter after each one - include spaces as shown.
Bootrec.exe
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
Remove the Vista disc and try rebooting the notebook.

DP-K

I appreciate your response and help with this matter.i plan to try this as soon as I can get another pc.My best interest would be to just buy a new computer which I will, but I hate for this one to just be "junked" when my younger son could use it.
Question: can this pc handle the installation of windows 7? I've heard it can. But not quite sure.

Hi,
You're welcome
The notebook can definitely run Windows 7, infact it will probably perform better than Vista.
There is also a full set of drivers/software for your notebook running Windows 7 - see the relevant link below.
dv7-1245dx - Windows 7 32bit Drivers & Software.
dv7-1245dx - Windows 7 64bit Drivers & Software.
Best regards,

Hello Clinth31. I understand you are having difficulties starting the computer properly. I found a Microsoft forum that contains troubleshooting for your issue, that you should try: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-system/windows-failed-to-start-error-...
Please let me know if this assists you or not, and I will continue to research the issue in the meantime.
