HP Laptop PC 15-dw3000 (1A3Y0AV)

Since windows went through its recent updates, I have had the WORST experience with everything from signing in to weird dates on items in the device manager. Somewhere in the updates it started listing my old computer as another linked device and then it almost seemed it had them as one in the same. I swear it like the laptop has a mind of its own or someone is inside controlling it. Yes, that sounds weird however I cannot even list all the issues. Today I removed the old computer from linked devices.

It runs slow now, and it changes where I put things.

I had also upgraded to the windows family i think in April and that's when it really began to be bad. It continues to get weirder every day. After Microsoft said the only thing, they were going to do was security checks it fell apart. It was windows 11 home, but they fixed it, and you can download apps from wherever.

It's beginning to make things impossible. I have run diagnostics with windows with McAfee and other ways. Never finds a thing wrong.

The Drivers say they are from 2006! This is a computer that was made in 2018 as far as I know.

Oh, and I am a computer dummy... but I learned some things trying to figure it all out.

I need help! Does anyone else have any of these problems???

Open to suggestions answers etc.

Hi @steener92,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a range of frustrating issues with your HP Laptop PC 15 after recent Windows updates. Here are some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve these problems.

System Restore

Consider restoring your system to a point before the issues started. This can often resolve issues caused by recent updates.

  • How to do it:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
    • Under Advanced startup, select Restart now.
    • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
    • Follow the prompts to restore to an earlier point.

Check for Additional Updates

Ensure your system is fully up-to-date. Sometimes a subsequent update may resolve issues caused by a previous one.

  • How to do it:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Click Check for updates and install any that are available.

Device Manager and Driver Updates

Drivers showing dates from 2006 can be a sign of generic drivers installed by Windows. Ensure you have the latest drivers from HP.

  • How to do it:
    • Go to Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
    • For each major hardware component (e.g., Display adapters, Network adapters), right-click and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
    • Alternatively, visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your specific model.

Check for Malware

Even if your antivirus scans have come up clean, it's a good idea to run an additional scan with a different tool, as some malware can evade certain antivirus programs.

  • Recommended tools:
    • Malwarebytes: A well-regarded anti-malware tool that can be used alongside your existing antivirus.
    • Download from Malwarebytes official site.

Perform a Clean Boot

A clean boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This can help determine if background programs are interfering.

  • How to do it:
    • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    • Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
    • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
    • Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your computer.

Resetting Windows

If the above steps don’t resolve the issues, you might consider resetting Windows. This can often resolve deep-seated issues.

  • How to do it:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
    • Under Reset this PC, click Get started.
    • Choose whether to keep your files or remove everything and follow the prompts.

HP Support Assistance

Since this is an HP laptop, you can also use the HP Support Assistant to diagnose and fix problems.

  • How to do it:
    • Download and install HP Support Assistant.
    • Use the tool to run diagnostics and apply any recommended fixes.

BIOS Update

Sometimes, issues can be resolved with a BIOS update. Be cautious and follow instructions precisely, as incorrect updates can cause more issues.

  • How to do it:
    • Visit the HP Support website.
    • Search for your laptop model and download the latest BIOS update.
    • Follow the instructions provided on the HP website for updating the BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
