Unmountable boot volume error. Preparing automatic repair window and not going any further.

Sounds like the hard drive is failing. Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and run the tests.

It says hard drive short day check failed. What am I supposed to do.

You will have to replace the hard drive and reinstall Windows. For more help with all of that we need your full Model and/or Product number.
