Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to set up my new Samsung EVO SSD 250 GB by replacing my DVD/CD drive. I replaced the DVD drive with a fitting caddy, attached the SSD to it and inserted it into my Laptop.
The SSD is detected in BIOS. But when I tried to set it up from Windows, it doesn't show in disk management or device manager.
I'm unable to set it up.
IDE/ATA ATPI Controller driver is currently : intel(r) 6th generation core processor family platform i/o sata ahci controller
When I changed my IDE/ATA ATPI Controller driver to Standard SATA AHCI Controller, the SSD shows up everywhere. It is detected in Device Manager, Disk Management and also in the Samsung Magician software.
Now the problem happens is that I cannot format the new SSD to move on to transfer the OS.
I tired normal formatting, CMD to format, diskpart, third party softwares, but nothing seems to work. It does not format the disk and I'm completely stuck.
Any help will be appreciated.
HP Notebook
Model : 15-AC 179TX
Thanks.

You said when you have AHCI configured, Windows sees the SSD. So, do you have a working copy of windows for this PC already on another drive, such that you could CLONE that to the SSD? If you do that, all the partitions would get copied and you would not have to deal with formatting.

OK, then read the information below about CLONING the OS from an HDD to an SSD:
What I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
2) Connect the new drive to the PC using a USB-to-SSD drive adapter (like the one illustrated below)
3) Follow the instructions in this link: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Cloning+a+disk
4) Shutdown the PC when done
5) Swap the drives and reboot the PC.
NOTE: To do this easily, the SDD has to be the same capacity as the HDD. IF you get an SDD that is a lot smaller, then before you do the cloning, you have to shrink the largest partition on the HDD (usually the OS partition), to the size such that it, and the other partitions, fit easily on the SSD.
You should boot from the new drive without any problems.
Typical USB-to-SSD adapter:
NOTE: If your SSD is an M.2 SSD, then you will have to also get a second SATA SSD to M.2 SSD adapter.
Good Luck
