Hi @leesfuncky,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

When a factory reset doesn’t remove previous software, it could be due to:

  1. Reset type selected
    • Windows offers “Keep my files” vs “Remove everything”. Choosing the wrong option may leave apps and settings intact.
  2. Recovery partition issues
    • The HP recovery partition may be corrupted or outdated, preventing a full factory reset.

 Recommended Steps

  1. Use “Remove Everything” Reset
    • Go to Settings → Update & Security → Recovery → Reset this PC → Get started → Remove everything.
    • This ensures Windows removes all personal files and installed applications.
  2. HP Recovery Manager
    • If your laptop has HP Recovery Manager installed:
      • Press F11 at startup → select System Recovery → choose Factory Reset.
      • Make sure to select Full Factory Reset and remove all user data.
  3. Clean Installation of Windows
    • If previous software still persists, the most reliable option is a clean Windows installation:
  • Create a Windows 10/11 installation USB via Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  • Boot from the USB → choose Custom Installation → Delete all partitions → Install Windows fresh.
  • This removes all previous software and restores a completely clean system.
  1. Backup Important Files
    • Before performing a full clean install, backup all personal files as this process will erase everything.

I hope this helps.
