Pavilion 15n-259tx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My Laptop was not functioning properly and due to circumstances I completely formatted the Hard Drive and installed Ubuntu. Now I want to go back to Windows 8.1 but the product key which I got by running command "sudo strings /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/MSDM | tail -1" in Ubuntu is saying invalid product key. Below are the steps I performed

  1. Downloaded Windows 8.1 x64 from https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows8
  2. Flashed to USB using Rufus
  3. Booted from USB
  4. Entered the product key and it says product key does not match or invalid

Product: Hp Pavilion 15n-259tx

Current OS: Ubuntu 20.04

Any help is highly appreciated.

Hi:

Your notebook probably came with W8.1 Single Language.

Download the W8.1 64 bit Single Language ISO file and if it is the right file, then it shouldn't even ask for a product key to be entered.
