Can and will this be fixed with a new BIOS release or should this be reported to the Linux kernel bug tracker?

It seems to be a BIOS bug. I had added a 2nd memory rig and a 2,5" SATA ssd. I guess one of this causes cold boot hang and ACPI issues. Where can I report this bug? Entering serial number of this notebook leads from  HP customer support to HP enterprise support where this product isn't supported.

I have a similar case with you. The difference is that my notebook is Probook 450 G4, and currently I haven't add extra memory stick or SSD, when I boot linux, I have similar ACPI Error.

I want to ask except for the ACPI Error, whether you can currently successfully boot your linux and use all the hardware with Linux? Does ACPI only bother with the some Power management function?

HP Recommended

The system runs basically well here. I have a cold boot issue when the power supply is plugged in. No problems when it's unplugged. Suspend modes seem to work well (lid close - suspend to ram). Sometimes Xserver seems to have problems waking up properly. Apart from these minor issues the system works well with kernel 4.10, new 4.11 kernel should shorten the acpi related boot delay and may improve more stuff. The cold boot error has to be solved by a bios update. So far I haven't found a way to report it to the proper support place. All portals report my serial number as invalid.

One note: removing the internal M2 Sata drive didn't change the bevahior at all. I'm only using an older 2,5" ssd drive.

Whether the code boot issue you mentioned is the ACPI Error printed on the screen during boot? When you unplug the power when boot there is no such ACPI Error?

For me it seems the same whether plug or unplug the power during boot. I have upgraded to the latest BIOS Firmware released in April, version 01.04, seems no help. It seems officially HP do not support Linux for this model, so I doubt whether they prepare to fix this bug.

The cold boot error is not related to that ACPI error messages. I also updated to latest firmware with no change to the cold boot bug and no change to the acpi messages.

The system runs well though. No problem using it with linux only.

Hi!
Really, the problem is still not solved?
I have HP 440 of G4 and all in the same way. Developers of a kernel fixed a part of problems and remains following:

Really the HP company won't cope with such problem?

For me the same !  It seems that HP does not provide a full implemented ACPI. See here: https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2017/04/msg00698.html

Thats a pity, you are going to loose all the Linux customer. In many companies  the number of employees who use linux are growing, you want to lose this market ?

Please HP, deliver full implemented ACPI  with a BIOS update

Sry I forgot to mention my model: Probook 440 G4
