Hi @jk260791,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue you're experiencing could be related to power management settings, a software conflict, or a hardware-related issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Update Drivers and BIOS

Ensure that all drivers and your BIOS are up-to-date. This can resolve many hardware and software compatibility issues.

Update Drivers:

  • Open the HP Support Assistant and check for driver updates.
  • Alternatively, visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your model.

Update BIOS:

  • Use the HP Support Assistant or manually download the latest BIOS from the HP support website.

2. Check Power Management Settings

Incorrect power settings can cause devices like the keyboard and mouse to become unresponsive.

Adjust Power Plan Settings:

  1. Press Win + R, type control, and press Enter to open the Control Panel.
  2. Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  3. Select your current power plan and click Change plan settings.
  4. Click Change advanced power settings.
  5. Expand USB settings > USB selective suspend setting and set it to Disabled.
  6. Expand PCI Express > Link State Power Management and set it to Off.

Prevent Devices from Sleeping:

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards and Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click each device, select Properties, go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

3. Scan for System Corruption

Run system scans to check for and repair any corrupted system files.

  • Run SFC and DISM:
    1. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
    2. Type the following commands one at a time, pressing Enter after each: sfc /scannow
      DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

4. Test in Safe Mode

Boot your laptop in Safe Mode to determine if the issue is caused by a third-party application.

  1. Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. In the System Configuration window, go to the Boot tab.
  3. Check Safe boot and select Minimal. Click OK and restart.
  4. Use the laptop for a while to see if the issue persists.

5. Perform a Clean Boot

A clean boot can help identify software conflicts.

  1. Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.
  3. Check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  4. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
  5. Disable all startup items, close Task Manager, and click OK.
  6. Restart your laptop and check for the issue.

6. Check for Hardware Issues

If the problem persists, it could be a hardware issue.

  • Run HP Diagnostics:
    1. Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly during startup.
    2. Press F2 to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    3. Run extensive tests on the keyboard, mouse, and system.

7. Reset the System

If none of the above resolves the issue, consider resetting your system.

  • Reset Windows:
    1. Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
    2. Under Reset this PC, click Reset PC and choose the option to keep your files.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
