Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I noticed a file under C:\Users\Public that  keeps reappearing after I delete it.

I also tried reset Windows 10, but the file is there after the reset/restore.

I googled the file name amdsfhdcd.bin but no conclusive info has been found.

I'm a bit worried because it keeps coming back after I delete it, and the file's modified date/time is always current time.

Does anyone know what this file is, or at least know if this file is safe?

Thanks,

@TwinPeaks,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that a file keeps appearing in the C:\Users\Public folder.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Do you have an anti-virus program installed on your computer?

Are you facing any issues with the computer?

What is the product number for your computer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you scan the computer using an anti-virus program if installed on the computer or else you Windows defender and scan the computer and check.

NOTE: For malware, you can also use malware bite and run that on your computer.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Happy new year!

There are no apparent issues. The computer seems to be working just fine. It's just that I don't feel comfortable having the file that looks suspicious.

I ran McAfee that came with the notebook. (full scan) It didn't find any virus.

Regarding the product#:

It shows ProdlD6EH45UA#ABA. Not sure if it's 'Prod' and '|' is a delimiter. Or it's 'ProdID' and '6EH45UA#ABA' is the product number. I hope you know.

The model# is 15-cp0053cl

The file name starts with 'amd', so I wonder if it has something to do with the fact the CPU is from AMD.

If you can check if other ENVY models have the file amdsfhdcd.bin under C:\Users\Public, that would be great.

Thanks,

@TwinPeaks,

Thank you for the information.

I checked and see that the file is related to AMD Controller chipsets and it is a safe file.

I hope that answers your question.

Cheers!
