Hi @pipuni,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with two separate issues: a battery problem and performance slowdowns. Let's address them one by one.
Battery Issue:
- If your laptop's battery life has significantly decreased to only 20-30 minutes, it might indicate that the battery itself is deteriorating or failing. Laptop batteries have a limited lifespan and eventually need replacement.
- Try calibrating your battery. This involves fully charging it, then letting it drain completely before charging it again. This can sometimes help recalibrate the battery's internal software and improve its accuracy in reporting remaining charge.
- Check your laptop's power settings to ensure that there are no settings causing excessive power drain. Sometimes, certain power-hungry settings can significantly reduce battery life.
Performance Slowdowns:
- Slow performance can be caused by various factors such as insufficient RAM, a fragmented hard drive, or too many background processes running.
- Check the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to see if any processes are consuming a significant amount of CPU, memory, or disk resources. You may need to close unnecessary programs or disable startup programs to free up resources.
- Perform a disk cleanup and defragmentation to optimize your hard drive's performance. You can use built-in tools like Disk Cleanup (for Windows) or third-party software for a more thorough cleanup.
- Consider upgrading your laptop's hardware if it's feasible. Adding more RAM or upgrading to a solid-state drive (SSD) can greatly improve overall performance.
- Make sure your laptop is not overheating. Overheating can cause performance throttling to prevent damage to internal components. Ensure that the laptop's vents are clear of dust and debris, and consider using a laptop cooling pad if necessary.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
