The F.10 Rev.A BIOS (3/26/2024) download, sp151933.exe, is supposed to contain .bin files with the BIOS code. However, it only contains HPWINGUI.exe. I need to extract the .bin files to update the BIOS, since I'm using Ubuntu and there's no executable provided for Linux.

Hi @garfieldnate1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the BIOS update package (sp151933.exe) only contains the HPWINGUI.exe executable, it suggests that the package is intended for use with Windows. However, you can still extract the .bin files using some workarounds. Here's how you might go about it.
Use a Windows Virtual Machine or Wine:
- If you have access to a Windows virtual machine or can use Wine on Ubuntu, you can run HPWINGUI.exe in that environment. This might extract the necessary files into a folder, which you can then access from Ubuntu.
Extract Files Using an Archive Tool:
- Sometimes, you can use tools like 7-Zip or WinRAR to extract the contents of .exe files if they are actually self-extracting archives.
- Install p7zip-full on Ubuntu:
sudo apt update sudo apt install p7zip-full
- Extract the .exe file:
7z x sp151933.exe
Use BIOS Update Tools:
- HP sometimes provides BIOS update utilities that can be run from a bootable USB drive. Look for an HP USB Format Utility or similar tool in their support site that might help you create a bootable USB with the BIOS update.
Check HP’s Support Site:
- Sometimes, HP provides separate packages for BIOS updates for different operating systems. Check the HP support site for your specific laptop model to see if there is a version of the BIOS update for Linux or instructions on how to perform the update from a bootable USB.
Make sure to follow any specific instructions from HP regarding BIOS updates, as applying incorrect updates or using incompatible files can cause system issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
