@clivemorris, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Envy x360 is not detecting the hard disk during a Windows reinstallation, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter BIOS setup by pressing the appropriate key (usually F10 or Esc) as the laptop starts.
  • In BIOS, check if the hard disk is detected. If not, ensure SATA or AHCI mode is enabled (depending on your system).

Reseat the Hard Disk:

  • Power off your laptop and disconnect the power supply.
  • Open the laptop's back cover and carefully reseat the hard drive to ensure it's properly connected.

Use Windows Disk Management:

  • Boot the computer using a Windows installation USB.
  • Select Repair your computer → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Command prompt.
  • Type diskpart followed by list disk to see if the disk appears. If it does, it might need initialization.

Check for Driver Issues:

  • During Windows installation, select the option to load driver and install the necessary SATA or RAID driver for your specific Envy model if applicable.

Inspect for Hardware Issues:

  • In some cases, a faulty hard disk might not be detected. Test the hard disk on another computer if possible.
  • Consider replacing the hard disk if it is confirmed to be faulty.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
