Hello @Roosterjeff
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community. Note that your 2 similar posts related to BIOS updates have been merged into this one, a single thread.
- I'd like to ask you why you want to update the BIOS/UEFI ? Is there any specific reason ?
- Personally, I do not recommend you update it unless you experience some issues with your existing BIOS/UEFI and you are sure that the new one will fix it.
## General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for updating and just for using the latest version is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who released it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong.
Same applies for Windows Updates, OS update, drivers updates, etc - upgrade/update IF you have issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

when I go to update bios through the websites installer, it goes through the setup then reboots and says it failed. I am on bios f.35 but i was trying to update to f.46. any ideas why it fails? when i try to update it again through the hp support assistant it says its no longer applicable also.

If you do not trust me or if you disagree with my opinion with regards to the BIOS update,
you may check this official HP article and try to update using the USB method >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629

I will follow your advice and leave it alone for now. it says the bios update in the description has fixed or improved some for newer version of windows and I just installed some new ram and thought id upgrade it. i just assumed upgrading it wouldnt hurt

Thank you for your update.
In Windows 10, HP works with Microsoft and they will push important and critical BIOS updates to your computer via the means of Windows Update. If it is not that important, it will not be delivered automatically.
In all cases, I recommend you keep it as is now.
Enjoy your PC and thank you for choosing HP 😉
