Hi @JAR18,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When updating the BIOS on your HP Notebook 15, it's crucial to let the process complete without interruption. The message "Getting Windows ready, Don't turn off your computer" typically appears during system updates, including BIOS updates. Here’s what you should do.

  • Patience: The BIOS update process can take some time, sometimes longer than expected. Since your screen has shown this message for 15 minutes already, it indicates the system is in the midst of updating.
  • Do Not Shut Down: Interrupting a BIOS update can cause serious issues, potentially rendering your laptop unusable ("bricking" it). Therefore, it's essential to let the update process finish on its own.
  • Wait it Out: Even if it seems like nothing is happening, continue to wait. Sometimes these updates can take upwards of 30 minutes or more, depending on the system and the complexity of the update.

If the update process takes an unusually long time (over an hour, for instance), and you’re certain it’s stuck (the progress indicator doesn’t move), then you might consider a forced shutdown as a last resort. However, this should only be done if absolutely necessary, as it carries a risk of damaging the system.

In most cases, the message you’re seeing indicates that the update is progressing, albeit slowly. It's generally advisable to wait patiently and allow the update to complete. This ensures that your BIOS is updated correctly and reduces the risk of any complications.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
