Hi @JMR201,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing is typically related to the BIOS update process not completing fully or the update not being recognized properly by the system. Let's troubleshoot the problem.
Confirm the Current BIOS Version:
- Restart your HP Pavilion 14.
- Press the Esc key repeatedly during boot to access the Startup Menu.
- Press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
- Locate the current BIOS version and note it down. Compare it to the latest version available on HP’s support website for your specific model.
Download the BIOS Update Again:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
- Go to the Drivers & Software section and locate the BIOS update.
- Download the update and ensure it's the correct version for your laptop.
Prepare for the Update:
- Ensure your laptop is plugged into a power source.
- Close all unnecessary applications to prevent interruptions.
- Disable antivirus software temporarily, as it might interfere with the update process.
Reinstall the BIOS Update:
- Double-click the downloaded BIOS update file.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
- Allow the system to restart and complete the installation process.
Check the BIOS Update:
- After the update, recheck the BIOS version in the BIOS Setup Utility to ensure the update was applied successfully.
Clear the CMOS/BIOS Cache (if necessary):
- If the update still doesn't appear as installed, reset the BIOS settings to default.
- Enter the BIOS Setup Utility (F10 during boot).
- Look for an option to Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults and confirm.
- Save changes and exit.
Try the HP BIOS Update Tool:
- Use the HP Support Assistant software to check for and install BIOS updates.
- Alternatively, use the HP System Diagnostics tool by pressing F2 at startup to run a BIOS update check.
USB BIOS Recovery (if needed):
- If the update still fails, create a USB BIOS recovery drive:
- Download the BIOS file from HP’s website.
- Use the HP BIOS Update utility to create a recovery drive.
- Restart your laptop, press F2 or Esc, and follow the recovery steps.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
