Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As my pc tried to install windows 10 latest update and failed (previouse updates fine ) In my wisdom I tried to do this myself. Used the media tool from windows and tried to update pc but now my pc will not boot properly. I get into a loop of prepairing auto repair, the hp logo and circling dots, then your pc ran into problems and will restart.

I tried using usb with windows media tool as the boot device but even though I set the boot to usb this does not work.

How do I get my pc out of this loop and read the usb stick.

Any help greatly appreciated tried all sorts from this forum and web.

Pc has hard drive and solid state drive direct from hp so I have added nothing.

I think I have a bacup of everything on my network drive using acronis true image but this is of no use unless I get back into my pc.

my pc was originally windows 8 but I upgraded some time ago over the web to windows 10 and all was fine until this lates windows update which was the big one I think 1709.

Have you tried removing the smaller drive to see ig you get any further booting from USB?

You seem to have quite a bit of company:

Immediately after power on start tapping the Esc key. From the start-up menu tap F9 Boot options to select the usb as boot device.

If this does not offer USB as boot device- you will need to disable Secure boot/enable Legacy boot in BIOS.

Hi CherylG

I did as you say saw start up menu, hit f9 boot device options and went straight back into boot loop.

I did notice on the      you pc ran into problems screen        that shows the 😞 sign a very quick one liner that flashed up so quick I had to record with phone. It mentions a file iastoreAV.sys has problems.

exact captured message

your pc ran into problems and needs to restart. were just collecting some error info, and then wellrestart for you.

if you would like to know more you can search online later forthis error DRIVER IRQ-NOT- LESS-OR-EQUAL iastoreA.sys

I did look online but could not see anything relevant to this boot loop this missing file must be causing this boot failure I am thinking but I am not up with computer repairs.

Sounds like either your flash drive is not bootable or Secure boot setting in BIOS is preventing booting from it. Did you try disabling Secure boot?

To disable Secure boot you have to change it and reboot once before attempting to boot from flash drive. You will be asked to type in the code to confirm you want to make the change. Type it in-you won't see it on screen- just type it.

Scroll down on the page here nearly to bottom- open section on "Performing recovery on notebook PC's 2014". Look for the directions to disable Secure boot.

Have you run any tests on the hard drive? Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and run the tests.

Hi CherylG

I have run an extensive test as you suggesed and evetything passed.

I also produced an acronis usb boot disk that my pc did recognise and tried to resore to a network file but this did not work and I now get

Boot Device Not Found

please install an operating system on your hard disk.

hard disk (3f0)

so things I think are not good what are my options now do you think.

I hear that HP can give you a filw with the original build or do I try and get another windows boot usb as the acronis boot worked and maybe my windows usb boot was corrupt as you originall sugested.

thanks for your ongoing support

You can order Recovery Media from HP with original image but I think I would first try to make the Windows 10 usb again.

I really suspect that you need a new hard drive-even though it passed tests. Especially after your Acronis image restore failed. I have seen instances where the hdd passed but nothing solved it without replacing it.

Hi CherylG

l have now downloaded a new Windows 10 image to  new usb stick using Windows media created tool and again on boot there is no option to load anything it just goes into another boot loop. Strange that the Acronis boot usb gave options and the Windows boot usb does not. There are 2 drives in this pc one Is solid state I believe do you know which one I should replace as I think the operating System was on the solid state drive  is that the one to replace.?
