first time on any helpline forum.  

hi everyone.

 

can anyone give advice as to:  bootmgr compressed , appearing on start up.

any ideas???

Sounds like you checked "Compress this drive to save space"?  What operating system are you running? Is it the original that shipped on the laptop?

much appreciated. did check that sight earlier,but obviousley missed on some things.

 im just trying to fix as a pastime really.

i am not what one would say computer literate. lol!!

 

anyhow will dbl chk sight later on as getting bit late over here in BONNIE SCOTLAND.

BOUGHT AS IS, WITH  PREINSTALLED WINDOWS VISTA,WHAT VERSION ie HOME,BASIC NOT SURE.

DID TRY TO INSTALL EARLIER VERSION OF WINDOWS XP, AS ALTERNATIVE, BUT GOT NOWHERE.

What happened when you booted from the XP disk? If the laptop has Intel motherboard you will need to enter BIOS and disable native sata mode for XP to see the hard drive. If it is an AMD based XP should have no problems.

RUNS THROUGH WINDOWS SET UP,

THEN SHOWS, SETTING UP WINDOWS,

THEN,  WELCOME TO SET UP,

SET UP WIN "" PRESS ENT,

 

THEN SHOWS LICENSING AGGREEMENT

ASKING TO PRESS F8 KEY

 

THEN ASKS TO INSERT VARIOUS FULL VERSIONS OF WIN,

ie, XP HOME, XP PROFESSIONAL AMONG other LATER VERSIONS

WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION, IM SURE ITS FULL VERSION. DEF NOT AN UPGRADE.
