I'm selling my laptop and I need to get it wiped before I sell, I kinda hope to leave the HP software on there so I'm thinking I need some sort of recovery drive creating before I reset. or is it fine to just reinstall windows and wipe it all?

Hi @geordiestevie,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're selling your laptop and want to wipe your data while keeping the HP software and recovery tools, here's a breakdown of your options:

Best Option: Create a Recovery Drive First

This allows you to:

  • Wipe the laptop clean
  • Reinstall Windows with HP’s original drivers and software
  • Restore it to factory condition, just like when you first bought it

How to Create a Recovery Drive:

  1. Search "Recovery Drive" in the Windows Start menu.
  2. Open the tool and check “Back up system files to the recovery drive”.
  3. Insert a 32GB+ USB drive and follow the prompts.
  4. Once created, you can use this USB to reinstall Windows with HP’s software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
