probook 430G1
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have this note book since 2013 it was running windows 8.0  I try to upgrade it to woindows 8.1 with no success. And I saw someone from the forum says if revert BIOS back to old version 01.05 will do. I tried it didn't help. Then I try again to update the bios to newest ver 01.31 .

Now the computer take ages to boot up. "One drive shows script err" and can't even go to Store to down load it say "Your PC isn't connect to internet..."  but my internet access and all the program is working just slow.

Now what can I do? Go back to old Bios version? How? or you have any suggestion to upgrade to windows 8.1 or windows 10?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Stanley

Hello,

There seems to be some sort of software issue inside the current Windows 8 that is why I initially suggested you first perform recovery to go back to clean installation without issues and then try to upgrade to Windows 8.1

However, if you do not want to perform recovery, you may try other things first. However, if this does not help, please perform Recovery and then go through the standard 8.0->8.1 upgrade process.

1. Please, ensure the clock and date of your Windows are correct

2. Please, check the BIOS clock/date and correct them if necessary

3. Ensure Windows User Account Control is enabled/active

3.1 Restart the computer

4. Make sure you have applied all standard Windows updates (Control Panel > Windows Update)

4.1 Restart the computer

5. Make sure you do not have any security software installed that may interfere with the process especially network scanners, firewalls, etc.

6. Please, run Windows Update troubleshooter to check for and clear any errors >> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-8   |   http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9830262

6.1 Restart the computer

7, Ensure all drivers are updated - you may run HP Support assistant prior to that >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467905

7.1 Restart the computer

8. Run Windows Store Reseter to clear WS cache and settings >> http://www.askvg.com/did-you-know-wsreset-command-to-clear-windows-store-cache-in-windows-8-and-late...

9. Restart the computer once again after following the above suggestion

Try to upgrade to 8.1 once again by following the standard procedure:

To answer one of your questions - there is no official option to upgrade Win 8 to 8.1 without going through the Store for Windows 8 and Windows 8.0 Pro . Such an option is only available for the Enterprise edition of Windows and it is not publically available. When using Windows 8.0 (home standard version or Pro) you can only use Store - this is how Microsoft decide it to be.

If you did try everything mentioned above and it still does not work, please consider performing Recovery to factory defaut condition and then I believe it should work following the standard procedure (immediately after recovery and Windows Updates) >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03847367

Hi,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.

Please, do not try to upgrade BIOS unless you are 100% sure this will fix the issue. No experiments should be done with the BIOS. Consider BIOS essential part of your notebook, like the hearth, for example . You can brick your computer easily if you fail the BIOS. General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong.

Upgrade/update IF you have specific issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

Now, I'd recommend you read this article >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833

and recover the BIOS to the latest known good configation that worked for you.

With regards to slow boot and some programs not working - I'd recommend you perform HP System Recovery to get back to the original WIndows (factory default) condition. Here is how:

This is to confirm your operating system will be in the most clean form because it seems you have already tried a lot of things and something might be messy - no need to risk the update further.

And finally, you write "I try to upgrade it to woindows 8.1 with no success"

What do you mean ? What exactly you do and what fails ? Does Win 8.1 update show in the Store at all ?

What is your final destination - Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 ?

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.

The thing is my note book(probook 430G1) can not up grade from windows 8 to 8.1 some one from the forum suggest update the bios to earlier version then you can up grade the wilndows to 8.1 so I did but things turn out not as expected.

After your advice I re-update bios back to original version now when I try to upgrade the windows (I even download the win 8.1 upgrade from net) when install it starts then it goes to "store"  after a while it shows "your PC isn't connected to internet to use Store connect to internet then try again" but actually I was able access to internet without any problem. So I am stuck now what do I do next? is there any way you can upgrade the windows without going through the store?

Revert back to orginal factory setting is the last thing I want to do.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Stanley

Hi,

Thank you very much for your advice that is most helpful.

I follow your advice 8 run the ws reseter to clear the WS Cache and setting, then the store come back to work now. but when I start to upgrade it stopped halfway again. then I find out the #C drive was encrypted after I disable the encryption and the upgrade gone through. I think the encryption is the main culprit.

Thank you again for helping me solve the problem it bugging me for nearly two years.
