@jaija40, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Busybox Shell Prompt!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Verify Boot Media Integrity:

  • Make sure that the installation media (USB/CD) is not corrupted. You can test this by verifying the SHA256 checksum if it's available on the Ubuntu download page.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Ensure that the laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings are configured correctly:
    • Disable Secure Boot.
    • Ensure the boot order prioritizes the bootable installation media.
    • If available, set SATA mode to AHCI.

Reattempt Installation:

  • Sometimes redoing the installation process can resolve errors after checking for any issues with the installation media.

Live Session Troubleshooting:

  • Use the Ubuntu live session from the installation media to check for potential hardware or disk partition issues. You can do this by booting from the USB/CD without installing.

Check Disk Partition:

  • Use tools like fdisk or gparted within the live session to ensure the partitions are correctly set. They should be formatted to ext4 or another Linux-compatible filesystem.

Use Boot Repair:

  • In some cases, using Boot Repair can fix boot issues:
    • Boot from an Ubuntu live session.
    • Install Boot Repair:
      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
      sudo apt-get update
      sudo apt-get install boot-repair
    • Run boot-repair from the terminal or locate it in system tools.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
