HP model 15s-fqxxx. I formatted the hard disk to re-install Windows 10. now when I turn on the pc it says "boot device not found". I cannot boot from either a usb cd rom or a bootable windows usb stick to install windows. Any suggestions welcomed.

In order to boot from a device other than the internal drive, for a USB flash drive you need to:
Have the USB flash drive in the PC's USB port.
Turn on or restart the PC.
Immediately tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu and from that, select the USB flash drive and press the Enter key.
The PC should boot from the W10 USB installation flash drive.

Thanks Paul but done all that and the computer still shows the message "Boot device not found". I have also ran PC hardware diagnostics and all the tests show no problems. I am trying to install Windows and have tried to boot from a bootable usb windows drive and also from a windows cd rom but they aren't recognised, just the same message, "boot device not found" and the hard disk gives the 3F0. I have also reset the bios but the problem still occurs.

You're very welcome.
Since you have tried what I wrote, then I would assume one of two things could be the problem.
1. There is a problem with the installation media.
Naturally, since you formatted the storage drive you would get the boot device not found error.
But if the installation media is not properly made, you will get the same error.
In order for something like a USB flash drive or DVD to boot, there has to be a bootable program on it.
In other words, if you just installed a blank USB flash drive in the USB port, you would get the same error.
2. There is a significant hardware issue that I wouldn't be able to help you with.
So, my questions to you are:
How did you create the W10 installation media?
If you did not use Microsoft's media creation tool to automatically create a bootable USB flash drive, w\how did you transfer the ISO file to a USB flash drive so that it became bootable?

Thanks Paul but I have tried with both a bootable usb drive and with a cd rom with no effect. I appreciate your help but have decided to leave the laptop in to a computer repair shop. Thanks again for your advice but consider the case closed.
