Hi @BP671,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The specific blink code pattern you're seeing on your HP Notebook, in this case, three long blinks followed by two short blinks on the Caps Lock key LED, is typically an indication of a hardware issue. These blink code patterns are used by HP laptops to diagnose hardware problems during the startup process.

In your case, 3 long blinks followed by 2 short blinks might indicate a problem with the system's memory (RAM). This could mean that there's an issue with one of the RAM modules or the memory slots on the motherboard. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Reseating RAM: Turn off the laptop, unplug it from the power source, and remove the battery (if possible). Open the laptop's access panel to the RAM modules, then carefully remove and reseat the RAM sticks. Make sure they are properly seated in their slots.
  • Try with One Stick: If your laptop has multiple RAM sticks, try booting the laptop with only one stick at a time. This will help you identify if one of the RAM modules is faulty.
  • Check for Loose Connections: Ensure that all internal components, including RAM, hard drive, and any other add-on cards, are securely connected to the motherboard.
  • Test with Known Good RAM: If you have access to compatible, known-good RAM modules, try swapping them into your laptop to see if the issue persists.
  • Reset CMOS/BIOS: In some cases, resetting the laptop's BIOS settings to default can help resolve hardware-related issues.
  • Check for Other Hardware Issues: If the issue persists after checking the RAM, it could be related to other hardware components such as the graphics card or motherboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
