Hi @Daeanarah,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're seeing the message "Boot device not found, please install an operating system on your hard disk" and your laptop has a black screen, it suggests that your laptop is having trouble detecting or accessing the hard disk where the operating system is installed. This issue can be caused by various factors, such as a faulty hard drive, loose connections, or a misconfigured BIOS.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Check physical connections: Ensure that the hard drive is properly connected to your laptop. If it's a removable drive, you can try removing and reinserting it to ensure a secure connection.
  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes a simple restart can fix minor issues. Turn off your laptop completely and then power it back on to see if it resolves the problem.
  • Access BIOS settings: During the startup process, there is usually a key (such as F2 or Del) that you need to press to access the BIOS settings. Once in the BIOS, check if your hard drive is recognized. If it's not, it could indicate a hardware problem.
  • Reset BIOS settings: If you recently made changes to the BIOS settings and the issue started after that, try resetting the BIOS to its default settings. Look for an option like "Load Setup Defaults" or "Reset to Default" in the BIOS menu.
  • Test the hard drive: If you have access to another computer, you can try connecting your laptop's hard drive externally to see if it can be detected. If it's not recognized on another computer as well, it may indicate a faulty hard drive that needs to be replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
