Microsoft Windows 11

"My laptop is plugged in and charged to 100%. After shutting it down, I powered it on after some time, and it turned on but suddenly lost power. When I connected the charger and powered it on again, I noticed the battery charge was at 0%. After waiting for the charge to reach 4%, it suddenly showed 100%." is any solution for this problem

Hi @adharshvl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your Victus by HP 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop suggests a problem with the battery calibration, power management system, or possibly a hardware issue. Here are steps you can take to diagnose and resolve the problem.

Check Battery Health

Windows Battery Report:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
  3. Check the generated report (usually saved in C:\Users\[YourUsername]) for discrepancies in battery health or charge cycles.

HP Diagnostic Tool:

  1. Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly during boot to access the Startup Menu.
  2. Select F2 - System Diagnostics.
  3. Run the Battery Test.

Perform a Battery Calibration

Sometimes the battery percentage displayed may not align with the actual charge. Here's how to recalibrate:

  1. Charge the laptop to 100% and leave it plugged in for an hour after reaching full charge.
  2. Unplug the charger and let the battery drain completely until the laptop shuts down.
  3. Leave it off for about 2-3 hours.
  4. Plug it in again and charge to 100% without interruption.

Update Drivers and BIOS

Update Power and Battery Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  • Expand Batteries.
  • Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart the laptop (Windows will reinstall the driver automatically).

Update BIOS:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS for your laptop model.
  • Follow the instructions to install.

Inspect for Hardware Issues

  • Power Adapter: Ensure your charger is genuine and provides the correct wattage. A lower wattage adapter can cause erratic charging behavior.
  • Battery: If the issue persists, there might be a fault with the battery itself. Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool (via BIOS or HP Support Assistant) to verify.

Reset the Embedded Controller

Performing a reset can clear any glitches in the power management system:

  1. Shut down the laptop.
  2. Disconnect all peripherals and unplug the charger.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the charger and power on the laptop.

Check for Windows or Third-Party Power Management Conflicts

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings.
  • Set the power plan to Balanced.
  • Disable any third-party battery optimization software that might interfere with the charging process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
