I have an ACPI bios error (0xA5) with my laptop, I cannot find the correct BIOS spxxxxx.exe. HP doesn't support anymore my laptop. Could you help ?

Trying to update the BIOS will not solve the problem.

In that model series, the ACPI BIOS error can be resolved by going into the BIOS>Security menu>find the TPM device and change the setting from Available to Hidden.

Save the setting and you should not get that error anymore.

That error occurs on every 17-pXXX model with an AMD processor and chipset.

Do you know why it's happened ? This laptop wasn't compatible with WIN11 (according to  windows review) but I have changed the HDD by a SSD disk and I also upgrade to WIN11, 6 month ago, and everythings worked fine until last week. . Do you think there is a link ?

Unfortunately, I don't know why it happened, but it happens to the PC's with W10 on them as well.

Also, it seems to happen at random.

It didn't happen to every notebook after one specific Windows update, for example.

For example:  a large group of notebooks (there are 3 model series I can think of offhand...15-abXXX, 17-gXXX and the 17-pXXX model series) all having AMD processors and running W10 or W11, without warning get that ACPI BIOS error.

I would imagine that there are some folks that have one of the above notebooks where it hasn't happened yet.

Since none of the PC's meet Microsoft's minimum W11 hardware requirements to run W11, hiding the TPM 2.0 device won't matter.

The only time it will matter is if you have Windows 10 or W11 Pro installed on your notebook and use Microsoft Bitlocker encryption which requires the TPM device to be enabled.

Otherwise, it should not have any effect on your notebook's performance.

When I first became aware of the situation and folks asked for the latest BIOS update to fix the issue, I gave them the last BIOS updates that HP released for those models and 100% of them indicated that updating the BIOS had no effect.

Then I asked one person to try enabling the TPM device again with the latest BIOS update installed and the person replied that upon doing that and restarting the PC, he immediately got the ACPI BIOS error again.

That's how I know that updating the BIOS has zero effect on resolving that issue.

If you are new to running W11 on your PC and your notebook has the latest updates from Windows installed, as of last year, Microsoft uses an 'Enablement package' to update the current build of W11 to the new one.

It's a small file that updates 25H2 to 26H2 in less than a minute.

This is great because now you don't have to use Rufus or other workarounds to bypass the W11 hardware checks to upgrade to the next build of W11.

I'm already running W11 26H2 on all of my unsupported PC's using the new 26H2 enablement file I got from the link I posted below.

Microsoft doesn't have it available yet.

I used the file because I am concerned that Microsoft may not upload it to the Microsoft update catalog this year.

They did last year and now they removed it.

If you are interested in updating to 26H2, here is the information:

You want the first download link, not the one for ARM 64.

Before you can install the enablement package (KB5121794), the device must have the Windows 11 update KB5120998 (build 26200.9278).

That update came out last week and W11 should have installed it if your notebook is currently up to date.
