Hi @jocker070913,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're getting a CMOS checksum error on your HP laptop, it typically indicates that there is an issue with the CMOS battery or the CMOS settings have been corrupted. Here are some steps you can take to reset the CMOS on an HP laptop.

  • Power Off the Laptop: Make sure your laptop is powered off completely.
  • Locate the CMOS Battery: The CMOS battery is usually a coin-cell battery on the laptop's motherboard. You may need to consult your laptop's manual.
  • Remove the CMOS Battery: Carefully open the laptop's case to access the motherboard. Once you locate the CMOS battery, carefully remove it. This might involve unscrewing some parts or removing panels. Ensure you're grounded to prevent static electricity discharge.
  • Wait for Some Time: After removing the CMOS battery, wait for at least 15-30 minutes. This allows the residual charge in the laptop to dissipate, ensuring a complete reset.
  • Reinsert the CMOS Battery: Put the CMOS battery back in its place.
  • Power On the Laptop: Power on your laptop and check if the CMOS checksum error persists.
  • Update BIOS/UEFI: If the issue persists, you may want to check if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop model on the HP website. If there is, follow the instructions to update the BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
