Hi @Susan_G1219
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That sounds frustrating! If your computer keeps shutting down unexpectedly, it could be due to overheating, power issues, or software conflicts. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:
Step 1: Check for Overheating
- Ensure the vents and fans are clean and unobstructed.
- Use compressed air to remove dust buildup.
- If the laptop feels hot, consider using a cooling pad.
Step 2: Run a Hardware Diagnostic
- Restart your computer and press F2 repeatedly to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.
- Run a system test to check for hardware issues.
Step 3: Check Event Viewer for Errors
- Open Event Viewer (search for it in Windows).
- Go to Windows Logs > System and look for critical errors right before the shutdown.
Step 4: Update Drivers & BIOS
- Go to HP Support and check for BIOS and driver updates.
- Install any pending Windows updates.
Step 5: Disable Fast Startup
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click Choose what the power buttons do.
- Disable Fast Startup and restart.
Step 6: Check Power Settings
- If the shutdown happens when hibernating or sleeping, adjust power settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep.
- Set Sleep and Hibernate to Never.
Try these steps and let me know if the issue persists! We’ll get this sorted.
