@verso017, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

Game crashes can be frustrating, but we’ll help you get to the bottom of it. Here are some steps to diagnose and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check System Requirements

Make sure your laptop meets the minimum and recommended system requirements for the games you're trying to play. You can usually find these on the game’s official website or store page.

Step 2: Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers are a common cause of game crashes.

  • If you're using Intel graphics, use Intel Driver & Support Assistant.
  • For NVIDIA, go to NVIDIA Driver Downloads.
  • For AMD, visit AMD Drivers and Support.

You can also use HP Support Assistant to check for driver updates: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

Step 3: Check for Windows Updates

Make sure your Windows OS is fully updated:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all available updates.

Step 4: Clean Boot

Sometimes background apps interfere with games. Try a clean boot:

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  2. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
  4. Disable all startup items.
  5. Restart your laptop and try launching the game.

Step 5: Monitor Temperatures

Overheating can cause games to crash. Use a tool like HWMonitor or Core Temp to check CPU/GPU temperatures. If temps are high:

  • Clean air vents.
  • Use a cooling pad.
  • Avoid gaming on soft surfaces.

Step 6: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Check for hardware issues: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support

Run the System Test and Graphics Test to rule out hardware faults.

Step 7: Check Event Viewer for Crash Logs

  1. Press Windows + X > Event Viewer.
  2. Go to Windows Logs > Application.
  3. Look for errors related to the game or graphics drivers.

Step 8: Reinstall the Game

Sometimes game files get corrupted. Uninstall and reinstall the game from a trusted source (e.g., Steam, Epic Games).

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
