I have had to rebuild my OS because it did not update successfully from a restore point, and now I have lost my backup and recovery drive partition. To make a long story short, I have finally got it back working, but. . . . it will not let me create a backup recovery usb flash drive because it says I have already created recovery discs, which I did a year ago. The problem is I tried restoring from them and the last disc did not finish correctly, so it would not work.
All I want to do is create a Flash USB recovery, and be done with it. How can HP tell me that I can only do it once? That is crazy. Please help, as I have to create a recovery drive, now that the system is clean and operating again!!!

Not being able to make a System Restore point has nothing to do with your HP Recovery drive or discs. It looks more like a corrupt Windows installation -or hard drive problem.
How exactly did you "rebuild" your OS after system restore messed up the laptop?
Have you tested the hard drive using F2 System Diagnostics at power on?Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and run the tests.
If you do not want to order USB Recovery from HP use the builtin back-up app in Windows 10.

That has always been the limit-one set of Recovery Media. Only option is to order a USB Recovery from hp or use something like Macrium to make a backup inage while you have a fresh install.

Fortunately I had an original Windows 10 USB install drive. I did exactly what you suggested and did a fresh reinstall/repair with my Windows 10 USB drive. I was able to "repair" the old installation. Once I did that, the HP backup partition must have got corrected too, as it 'reappeared' on the HP backup partition. Who knows why?
I was also able to create Restore Points and find old ones to recover if I needed them, once it recognized the HP backup partition.
If it ever happens again I am going to reformat the drive and get rid of that HP backup partition. I understand why HP has it, but it makes it a lot harder for end users to do their own upgrades as Windows progresses. It is basically a way for HP to hold the user hostage to buy their Windows updates, instead of direct from Microsoft, which is how I have always done it for 20+ years!
