Good morning

I just performed a BIOS update on this notebook from the HP website. I entered the serial number, which resulted in the correct product code. I then used HP's assistant to download and run the BIOS update. Everything went well; the next time I rebooted, the BIOS wrote and reread. After the next reboot, all I had was the fan spinning, the hard drive did nothing, and the screen was black (I left it for an hour...nothing). I rebooted, but nothing happened. I removed the 3V battery, and nothing happened. I tried the F10, Esc, Win+B keys, and nothing. It was dead. I also tried the real recovery programs, and nothing happened. Now what? The computer isn't even mine!

Hi @sandror,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how serious this feels, especially since the notebook isn’t yours. It sounds like the BIOS update may have failed, leaving the system unresponsive. Let’s try these recovery steps:

Hard Reset

Disconnect AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).

Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.

Reconnect AC power only (leave battery out if removable) → try powering on.

BIOS Recovery (Win + B / V Keys)

With the notebook off, hold down Win + B (or Win + V).

While holding, press the power button for 2–3 seconds.

Keep holding keys until you hear beeps or see the screen light up.

If successful, the BIOS recovery will start.

USB BIOS Recovery

On another PC, go to HP Software & Drivers.

Download the correct BIOS update for the 15-BS003nl.

Run the installer → it will offer to create a recovery USB.

Insert this USB into the dead notebook and retry the Win + B process.

Check Caps Lock / Num Lock LEDs

If lights blink in a pattern, it may indicate a specific hardware/BIOS error.

I hope this helps.
