@Dave4411, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP DeskJet Plus 4120 All-in-One Printer prints a color sheet but fails to print or scan documents, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Check Printer Connection and Setup
- Ensure Connection: Confirm that the printer is correctly connected to your laptop. Use a USB connection or ensure the wireless network is active.
- Printer Software Installation: Check that the HP software is properly installed. If you used 123.hp.com, ensure it set up the correct software for your printer model.
- Printer Status: Verify that there are no error messages on the printer display and that it shows as "ready" on your computer.
Verify Printer Software Settings
Default Printer: Ensure that your HP DeskJet Plus 4120 is set as the default printer.
- Windows: Go to the Devices and Printers section in your Control Panel and right-click on your printer. Select Set as default printer.
Print Queue: Clear any stalled print jobs.
- Windows: Right-click on your printer icon in Devices and Printers and select See what’s printing. Cancel all documents.
Restart Printer Spooler:
- Open the Run dialog (Win + R).
- Type services.msc and press Enter.
- Find and right-click Print Spooler, then select Restart.
USB Connection:
- Ensure the USB cable is firmly connected and not longer than 2 meters (6.65 ft). Try using a different cable if necessary.
Update Drivers and Firmware
- Update Printer Driver:
- Visit the HP Support page.
- Enter your printer model to find the latest drivers and firmware updates.
- Download and install any newer versions.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
- HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can diagnose and fix issues automatically.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
