Hi @VELARPS

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

There are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue of your desktop shortcuts not working:

Check the shortcut properties: Right-click on the shortcut that is not working and select "Properties". Make sure that the target path is correct and that there are no extra spaces or characters in the path. Also, check the "Start in" field to ensure it is pointing to the correct folder.

Run a virus scan: Use your antivirus software to scan your computer for viruses and malware. Sometimes, malware can interfere with the functioning of your shortcuts.

Clear cache and browsing data: If the shortcut is related to a web page, clear your browser cache and browsing data. This can help fix issues with broken links and redirects.

Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.

Rebuild the icon cache: Windows uses an icon cache to display the icons of your programs and shortcuts. Sometimes, this cache can become corrupted, causing issues with shortcut icons. To rebuild the icon cache, follow these steps:

Open File Explorer and navigate to the following location: C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local

Locate the file named IconCache.db and delete it.

Open Task Manager and end the process named "Windows Explorer".

In Task Manager, click on "File" and then select "Run new task".

Type "explorer.exe" into the dialog box and press Enter.

This should rebuild the icon cache and resolve any issues with broken icons.

If this solution hit the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
