Hi @5CD3476H53

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

To help identify the URLs or domains that may need to be allowed for HP OS Recovery, could you please provide more details about the issue you're experiencing? Specifically, are you receiving any error messages during the recovery process, and at which stage does the failure occur (launch, device detection, download, or recovery media creation)? Additionally, please let us know whether the affected system is connected to a corporate network, VPN, proxy server, or any web-filtering/firewall solution. A screenshot of the error and the network security solution in use would also help us determine the appropriate firewall exclusions required.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @5CD3476H53

Thank you for responding.

To resolve initialization failures during the HP recovery process, HP support documentation recommends taking the following troubleshooting and preparation steps:

  • Disconnect Peripherals and Added Hardware: Unplug all peripheral devices except for the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and AC power cord. Remove any external storage media and recently added internal hardware before re-attempting recovery.
  • Maintain Stable Power: Ensure the system is connected to AC power throughout the entire recovery process, as power interruptions or running on battery can cause initialization or recovery failures.
  • Verify System Date and Time: Enter the BIOS/system setup to ensure the system clock, date, and time zone are correctly set, as inaccurate time settings can prevent recovery tools from properly initializing or connecting.
  • Verify Internet Connection & Network Settings: If using a network-based recovery, ensure a stable connection (an Ethernet connection is recommended over Wi-Fi). If you are on a secure or corporate network, verify that proxy server details and login credentials are valid.
  • Troubleshoot the Recovery Media / USB Drive:
    • Ensure recovery media is built on a blank USB flash drive with at least 64 GB of space (external hard drives are not supported).
    • Reformat the USB flash drive or test it into a different USB port on the computer.
    • When booting from USB, press F9 immediately upon powering on the computer to open the boot menu and select the target USB drive.
  • Restart the Process: If an initialization or image process error occurs, restart the recovery procedure from the beginning.
  • Run Hardware Diagnostics: If initialization repeatedly fails on the target SSD, use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to test the drive and hardware components for underlying physical faults. and share the results.
