HP pavilion dv6700 notebook
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Instructions to access "Start Up "menu say:

  1-Turn computer off,then on.

2-Press ESC,repeatedly, once about every second until "Start Up"menu opens.

This does not work on my laptop(HP pavilion dv6700 notebook). All this does is halt the machine from booting up. I pushed the ESC button, repeatedly,at least 70-80 times within a minute on two seperate attempts.

It is my intention to access BIOS set up and check/make System Configuration Boot Option changes in order to install a different operating system. The previous owner of this laptop changed OS to Windows 8.1 Pro in 2014.

Belarc Advisor Computer Profile app tells me:

 Boot Mode:BIOS(Secure Boot not supported)

I need to access Start Up Menu,BIOS set up.

Have you tried tapping F9  immediately  after powering on to choose boot device?

The dv6700 does not have Secure Boot in BIOS- this laptop was originally Vista I believe which was before Secure boot. That feature started with laptops that shipped with Windows 8.
