Laptop had the F30 error and I replaced the hard drive.  Did I now ruin the new hard drive since I ran a check disk prior to installing the operating system?  Not a computer expert and after installing the drive I turned on the computer to see if it worked not realizing that I would need to install the operating system (Windows 10) from a USB.  I then attempted to install the operating system  and I receive an IO error.  Do I need a new drive again?

@dsabado Welcome to HP Community!

I suggest you attempt a BIOS Recovery using the below steps as its known to resolve IO error:

  1. Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord.

  2. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds.

    Keyboard highlighting the key presses for BIOS recovery
