Hi @AimaIrfan,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The HP PC Error 601 you're seeing is a battery alert that appears during startup. It means your laptop's primary (internal) battery has significantly degraded its current capacity is less than 25% of its original design capacity. This is a BIOS-level warning, not a Windows error, and it’s HP’s way of telling you the battery may need attention or replacement.

Let’s walk through how to fix it and what your options are.

Step-by-Step Fix for HP Error 601

1. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI

This will confirm the battery’s health and suggest next steps.

  • Shut down your laptop completely.
  • Turn it on and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Go to Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  • Select Run Once and wait for the results.

The test will show one of the following:

  • OK – Battery is fine.
  • Calibrate – Battery gauge needs recalibration.
  • Weak / Very Weak / Replace – Battery is degraded and should be replaced.

2. Try Battery Calibration (if suggested)

If the diagnostic recommends calibration:

Manual Calibration Steps:

  1. Fully charge the battery.
  2. Unplug the charger and let the battery drain completely until the laptop shuts down.
  3. Plug the charger back in and charge to 100% without interruption.

You can also use HP Support Assistant to run battery calibration: 🔗 HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

3. Update BIOS

Sometimes, the BIOS misreads battery capacity. Updating it can help.

  • Press Win + R, type msinfo32, and check your BIOS version.
  • Go to HP Drivers & Software and enter your laptop model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update.

⚠️ Important: Only install BIOS updates meant for your exact model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
