OMEN by HP 15t-dc100 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello
I am experiencing an issue with my OMEN by HP 15t-dc100 CTO laptop. Recently, the right fan has stopped working, and I receive a 90B error when I turn on the laptop. Is there any solution to this problem that doesn't involve opening the laptop or taking it to a technician?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @MoonLike,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the 90B error.

The "90B" error on an OMEN By HP 15t-Dc100 CTO laptop usually indicates a cooling fan issue. This error is often displayed when the system detects that the cooling fan is not operating correctly, which can lead to overheating and potential damage to the internal components. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check for Dust and Debris

  • Clean the Vents and Fans: Dust and debris can block airflow and cause the cooling fan to malfunction.
    • Turn off your laptop and unplug it.
    • Use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust from the vents and cooling fans.
    • Be gentle to avoid damaging the internal components.

2. Check Fan Operation

  • Listen and Observe: When you turn on the laptop, listen for the fan. If you don’t hear it or it makes unusual noises, it might be faulty or blocked.
    • If the fan is not spinning or making a loud noise, it may need to be replaced.

3. Update BIOS

  • Update BIOS: An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause fan-related issues.
    • Go to the HP Support website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest BIOS update.
    • Follow the instructions to update the BIOS.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Hard Reset: Sometimes, a hard reset can resolve hardware detection issues.
    • Turn off the laptop and disconnect all external devices.
    • Remove the power cord and, if possible, the battery.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect the battery and power cord, and then turn on the laptop.

5. Check for Software Issues

  • Check for Fan Control Software: If you have installed any third-party fan control software, it might be conflicting with the system’s BIOS controls.
    • Uninstall any third-party fan control software and check if the issue persists.

6. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • HP Hardware Diagnostics: Use the built-in diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues.
    • Turn off your laptop.
    • Turn it back on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
    • Press F2 to select System Diagnostics.
    • Run the Component Tests, particularly the Fan test.

Replace the Cooling Fan

  • Fan Replacement: If the fan is faulty, it will need to be replaced. This can be done by a professional technician, or if you are comfortable, you can do it yourself.
    • Purchase a compatible replacement fan for your laptop model.
    • Follow the service manual or a reliable guide to replace the fan. Click here

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be best to contact HP Support for further assistance. They can provide more detailed diagnostics and repair options.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
