No they are still on the old hard drive and you can get a cheap USB to SATA adapter connect it to the old hard drive and plug it into another computer or your computer once the new hard drive is up and running to cut/copy and paste off your old files.

That is not a full failure ID and you have to include the dashes so we can run it through the decoder but it is almost certainly notice of a hard drive failure. Stop using the drive and likely data can be recovered by using an external SATA adapter with the old hard drive even if the drive is no longer fit to use for running an operating system.

We can help with all aspects of hard drive replacement and software reinstallation. Where do you live (country)? And what is the exact model or product number of the laptop?

Should I take it to a computer store to be fixed or is this something I can do?

Pages 47-50 show how to remove the hard drive. There is an easy access panel so it is not hard. Just need a Phillips screwdriver.

This is a video about a very similar model and some people have an easier time with visual learning I know:

Hard drives are not expensive. $50-80 US. What country do you live in? We can also help with software reinstallation.

Your call. A repair shop loves this kind of business and it is going to cost maybe $150-200 US to have a technician do it and you can save the labor cost doing it yourself.

How can I get to my files to back up if possible?  If I replace the hard drive won't all my files be gone? Thank you for your assistance.
