My notebook would not boot so I ordered System Recovery Manager from HP. I followed the instructions that came with the CD. The recovery manager started up okay. When it started "Copying files required" it gives me the following er error:RecoveryManagerImage.jpg

The error code = Hard Disk 1 SMART Hard Drive Detects Imminent Failure. Your hard drive is failing fast and will have to be replaced.

If you are still in warranty HP will replace it. If not a retail 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive can be used-Western Digital,Seagate,Toshiba, etc
Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use HP Recovery Media to install Windows. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

Copy errors can result from several things. A bad hard drive that doesn't accept the files ,faulty Recovery Disc, faulty Optical drive, faulty memory/ram, etc. I would try running some Diagnostics  tests as first step in troubleshooting.

Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This will open a menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and run the tests.

Thanks for your reply CherylG. I ran the Diagnostics and received the following error code:

Failure ID : RUVBKL-7T794R-MFPWLK-60E403

Where can I find out what this code means. Thanks
