Hi @Kamie99,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP laptop is booting into the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI screen. This screen usually appears if the system detects a problem or if the boot order in the BIOS is set to start with the diagnostic tools.
To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps.
Exit the Diagnostics Screen:
- Use the arrow keys to navigate to "Exit" and press Enter. See if the system boots normally.
Check the Boot Order:
- Restart your laptop and immediately press Esc or F10 (depending on your HP laptop model) to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
- Navigate to the "Boot Order" or "Boot Options" menu.
- Ensure that the primary boot device is set to your hard drive or SSD where the operating system is installed.
- Save changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI settings.
Run Diagnostics:
- While on the Diagnostics screen, you might want to run the memory and hard drive tests to ensure there are no underlying hardware issues.
- Select "Memory Test" and "Hard Drive Test" to run the diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions and note any error messages or codes.
Check for Updates:
- If the system continues to boot into the diagnostics screen, ensure your BIOS is up to date. You can download the latest BIOS update from the HP Support website.
Reset BIOS Settings:
- If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the BIOS to default settings.
- Enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (press Esc or F10 during startup).
- Look for an option to "Load Setup Defaults" or "Restore Defaults" and select it.
- Save changes and exit.
If these steps do not resolve the issue or if you encounter any errors during the diagnostics tests, it may indicate a hardware problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
