Hi @ugochuik,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ey0000 shows “Cannot find BIOS image file / unable to open BIOS file” after flashing with the latest BIOS update. Let’s go through the recovery steps.

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Turn off the laptop and unplug all peripherals.

Hold down the Power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.

Reconnect only the power adapter and try turning it on.

2. Use Built-in BIOS Recovery

Power off the notebook.

Press and hold Windows + B keys, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.

Release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B until you see the HP BIOS Update screen.

If detected, the system will automatically search the hard drive or USB for a recovery image.

3. Create a BIOS Recovery USB

On another working PC, go to the official HP Software & Drivers page.

Enter your exact product number 15-ey0000.

Download the latest BIOS update utility (ensure it matches your exact model and board).

Run the installer → choose Create Recovery USB Drive option.

Insert the USB into your affected laptop and repeat Step 2.

4. Verify the Correct BIOS File

Ensure you didn’t flash a BIOS from a different sub-model (for example, AMD vs Intel variant).

The file name on the USB should look like HPBIOS.ROM or HPBIOS.bin.

If not, manually rename the file as directed in the installer instructions.

5. Reset CMOS (if recovery fails)

Disconnect AC adapter and remove the bottom cover (if you’re comfortable).

Unplug the battery connector for 5 minutes, then reconnect.

This resets the embedded controller and sometimes allows BIOS recovery to trigger.

I hope this helps.

I have done all 5 steps.  Made no difference. Now the laptop does even power on. I understand that flashing your Bios comes with a risk and HP denies all liability. My laptop was working fine and I just wanted to bring it up to latest Bios, now I am dealing with these issues. HP should post this risk messages and its deniability if something happens.

Hi @ugochuik,

I understand how frustrating this situation must be, and I completely empathize. Since you’ve already tried all the standard recovery steps (hard reset, built-in BIOS recovery, USB recovery, verifying the correct BIOS file, and CMOS reset) and the laptop still doesn’t power on, this indicates that the BIOS has likely become corrupted and cannot recover automatically.

At this point, further recovery attempts at home could risk permanent damage to your device. The safest and most effective way to restore functionality is to have your laptop serviced by authorized HP technicians, who can perform advanced BIOS recovery or motherboard-level repairs.

To ensure your device receives the appropriate care, we recommend visiting an HP Authorized Service Center. Our certified technicians can provide a thorough diagnosis and offer the best solutions to restore your system.

I’m very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, and I understand this is not the outcome you were hoping for. If you need any guidance when taking your laptop to the service center, feel free to reach out.

Take care and stay safe!
